The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Cameroon, in partnership with the Cameroon English Language and Literature Teachers Association, is organizing an English language teaching workshop at the American Corner Bertoua, on Monday, August 27, 2007, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This workshop, which will be conducted by U.S. Department of State English Language Specialist Kathleen Saville, will focus on English language teaching methodology and practices. Topics to be covered include academic writing techniques, teaching techniques for larges classes, reading poetry for cultural understanding, and American culture.
Kathleen Saville is an instructor in the Department of Rhetoric and Composition at the American University in Cairo where she has taught integrated writing, argument and research writing since 2003. She previously taught English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in Cairo, from 1997 to 2003 for the USAID English Language Testing and Training Program. As an U.S, Information Service English Teaching Fellow, she trained teachers and worked as a materials writer in Lahore and Islamabad, Pakistan from 1993 – 1995. She has presented professional papers and workshops at international Teachers of English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and linguistics-themed conferences in Hong Kong, Brunei, Colorado, Laos, and Pakistan on EFL teaching methods and activities, computer-assisted language learning and academic writing. She resides in Cairo, Egypt, and Vermont, USA. Kathleen Saville holds a Masters in Teaching English as a foreign Language from St. Michael’s College, Vermont, USA.
