AMERICAN EXPERTISE at MINEDUC and MINPMEESA

The swearing-in of 36 American Peace Corps volunteers, who have completed training and immersion, will take place at the Bangangté Hôtel de Ville, on Wednesday, August 22, 2007. The ceremony will be presided over by representatives of the U.S. Embassy ; the Ministry of National Education ; the Ministry of Small and Medium-Size Enterprises, Social Economy and Handicrafts ; the Governor of the West Province Pascal Mani ; Peace Corps/Cameroon Country Director James Tavio Ham ; and dignitaries of Mifi and Ndé.
The swearing-in ceremony marks the end of three months of intense training in cross-cultural understanding, language, and teaching techniques in Cameroon’s grammar schools and high schools an and in the development of small and medium-size enterprises. Twenty-one volunteers will teach English, mathematics, and information technology when the school session opens, while fifteen volunteers will be placed in financial institutions for the Promotion and Development of Small and Medium Enterprises.
Cameroon benefits from Peace Corps services since 1962. Presently, 120 volunteers work in Cameroon for the prevention of HIV/AIDS, Development of Small and Medium Enterprises, Water and Water Treatment, Community Health, English Teaching, Mathematics and Sciences, Computer Science, and Agro-forestry. A group of 42 Americans will arrive in Cameroon, in September 2007, for their training in community health and agro-forestry.
