American Business Leaders Meet with Prime Minister to Discuss Investment in Cameroon

Press Release - September 10, 2004

A group of thirteen senior business executives from several American corporations are in Cameroon September 10th and 11th as part of a West African tour to meet government officials and to explore investment opportunities in the region. Under the sponsorship of the Business Executives for National Security (BENS), the delegation is led by Charles Boyd, a retired US General. At the request of General James Jones, the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, the US government is helping to organize the visit.

The United States government hopes that this visit will enable the American business community to better understand the business environment in Cameroon and to see first hand the many investment opportunities in the country. One of the businessmen making the trip is Andrew Young, the former mayor of Atlanta, and currently the Chairman of GoodWorks International. Today's visit by BENS is a result of the recent visit to Cameroon by Senator Chuck Hagel, as well as General Jones' visit to the country in February.

The business leaders will be meeting with Prime Minister Peter Mafany Musonge, other government officials, as well as representatives of the local business community. Though the visit will be short, the American businessmen believe that the trip is another example of the growing business ties between the US and Cameroon, and they look forward to gaining insight on the economic conditions in Cameroon and the possibilities for investment here. The US Embassy is proud to be facilitating the visit and believes that it is another example of the strong relationship that exists between the two countries.
