U.S. Navy Ship Conducts Port Visit in Limbe, Cameroon

LIMBE, CAMEROON – USS Kauffman (FFG 59), a U.S. Navy frigate, arrives in Limbe today, March 19, to conduct a four-day port visit as part of an ongoing effort to enhance relations throughout West and Central Africa.

USS Kauffman along with U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Legare (WMEC 912) are currently deployed to the Gulf of Guinea as part of a task group to strengthen regional maritime partnerships.

“This visit is part of the U.S. commitment to help bring security, stability and economic opportunity to all regions of Africa,” said Commodore John Nowell, commander of the deployed U.S. Navy task group. “Our community activities and work with local military forces will be great learning experiences for our Sailors and provide us an opportunity to strengthen our friendship.”

Cameroon civilian and military leaders will welcome Cmdr. Chris Rhoden, Commanding Officer USS Kauffman, and a crew of approximately 220 Sailors.

In addition to enjoying the hospitality of local citizens and businesses, sailors are scheduled to participate in several activities, including receptions with key officials, sporting events, professional exchanges with local forces, and community relations projects.

USS Kauffman, home-ported in Norfolk, VA, has been operating in the region for several weeks and has previously visited Cape Verde, Senegal, Gabon, Angola, Congo , and Sao Tome and Principe.
